| Races The Firstborn Avari A race of humanoids bearing white-feathered wings that sprout from between their shoulder blades. These large, powerful wings render Avari capable of flight much into their mature years. It is also from these wings that they derive a great deal of pride, enjoying the lofty heights they can reach. As one of the First Born races, the average Avari lifespan is eight hundred years, despite their immortality; violence does not discriminate between mortality and immortality. However, they are not impervious to age. All First Borns age at a much slower, drawn out rate. Male Avari stand at an average height from 5 to 6 feet while females normally range from 4.5 to 5.5 feet. In peak physical shape, a male Avari will weigh an average of 170 lbs. and females approximately 100 lbs. One defining feature that differentiates them, aside from the wings, from Humans, is their bones. The Avari skeleton is near half as light as that of Humans, allowing them to fly unhindered and making them soft-footed. The Avari society, and by consequence Dar’Avari society, is based upon a class system with the royalty on the top, and commoners on the bottom. But, unlike many previous civilizations, the lives of commoners, nobility, and royalty differ only in lifestyle, as there is, in majority, a sense of mutual respect amongst the members of the race. For a time, the Avari remained secluded unto themselves, but have since began to expand into the world of Illcara. After the War of Those Born, the Avari and Dar'Avari drew into their own cities, strengthening defenses and leaving the surveyance of the Humans to the Elves. Rare are Avari seen travelling with non-First Born company. Their language is most closely related to that of the Sun Elves, though different in many ways. It has similar alphabet, but different pronunciations for many of the letters. Before their open policy, it was rare to hear an Avari speak Common, but it has now become commonplace for any self-respecting Avari to adapt the language. Nevertheless, amongst their own, Avain, their native tongue, is most often used. The majority of avari hail to Solaris, God of Light, their creator, but some do pursue Neutari’s ways as well. It is rare to find a loyal servant to Vrakna amongst the winged-ones for they believe he opposes the clear skies they fly. It is equally rare to find an Avari loyal to the Warren Gods. Furthermore, the Avari have many notable priests that pursue the faith of the Gods they choose. Others have become decent warriors and magic-users as well, but the priest is regarded as a staple part of Avari society. Where they differ is in their pale flesh and leathery, bat-like wings. Like the Avari, they also feel a great sense of pride in their wings. In every other regard, as well, the Dar’avari carry the same physical traits as the Avari. Dar’avari society and Avari society are one in the same, both having been fairly secretive of their own until recent years. As far as their physical differences and past loyalties are concerned, there is no racial discrimination amongst the Avari and Dar’avari populace. When interacting with other races, Dar’avari have since been in contact with Second Borns far less than in the past. The Dar’avari also differ from the Avari in language. Again, it is similar to Sun Elven and, therefore closely related to Avain, but D’avar is more dark sounding, using harsher vowel sounds and crisp enunciations. But, like the Avari, most Dar’avari have learned Common as a second language as well. Prior to their turning, most every Dar’avari worshipped Vrakna. But, the leather-winged race eventually left their creator and were taken in by Solaris and therefore melded with Avari society. Now, the Dar’avari are primarily loyal to their saviour, Solaris. Many still pursue Vrakna’s ways as well, but it is not as common. Like their cousin race, they too are rarely seen to follow the Warren Gods. The Dar’avari have prided themselves in the pursuit of magic and combat, making them excellent warriors and mages alike. Racial Skill: Flight Movement: 5 squares per day over land and water |
